Welcome message from the Mayor

Sevens and Cape Town have a wonderful decade-old relationship, with our city putting on a show every year that must surely rank among the highlights of the season. For us, the annual SVNS tournament is one of the most important events on our calendar as the world tunes in to Cape Town during a magical time of the year and sees our city at its very best. We are ready to put on our best SVNS party yet, and our iconic DHL Stadium with its brand new pitch, is going to set a standard in this competition that will not easily be matched.

If you’ve never attended a SVNS tournament, I urge you to come and see what all the talk is about. Don’t be shy to dress up – the stadium will be packed with an incredible array of costumes and accessories – and come and enjoy a day that is perfect entertainment for the whole family.

While our Blitzboks and our Springboks Women’s Sevens team might have a slight numerical advantage among the fans, the wonderful thing about a Cape Town SVNS tournament is the massive support for visiting teams from thousands of traveling fans. It truly is a melting pot of accents, languages and crazy costumes, and makes for an unforgettable sporting experience.

Of course, Cape Town has so much else to offer over the summer season, and I invite all our visitors to cram in as much of our city’s unique flavour as they can during their time here. It won’t take long before they realise why we are consistently ranked at the top of the world’s must-visit cities, and start planning their next trip here.
