Your guide to packing for Perth
What to wear?
A question that plagues many on a regular basis – but fear not, if you are lucky enough to have tickets for the wildly popular HSBC SVNS in Perth, we have got you covered.
Perth has an average of eight hours of sunshine every day. This not only makes it Australia’s sunshine capital, but also one of the sunniest cities on earth! Given the HSBC SVNS Perth is taking place in the heart of summer from 24-26 January 2025 you can leave all coats, and indeed woollies at home.
That also means, should you be so inclined, there will be plenty of room in your suitcase for some top-grade fancy dress.
Calling all Aussie animals…
From pharaohs and Egyptian priestesses to policemen and pink flamingos, fans lit up Perth’s HBF Park 12 months ago and we would love more of the same this year to make sure Perth keeps its title as the best dressed of all the HSBC SVNS venues.
To be fair the gauntlet has already been thrown down this season. Early highlights included dinosaurs in Dubai and construction workers in Cape Town. We have also seen a troop of bathers in bathrobes and shower caps and some very attentive referees.
Perth, we are sure you are going to take it to a whole new level.
Prepare to party
Given HSBC SVNS Perth is so much more than a great rugby tournament, it may be worth bringing along a few extra items of clothing to HBF Park – for the after party.
Not only will an array of local artists be providing entertainment throughout the day, but the popular Beach Club and the adjacent Spring Hotel will be hosting parties long into the night. While temperatures do not drop much below 30 degrees Celsius once the sun is down, an extra layer could be needed. Perhaps add something a touch more elegant to your outfit as you sip a sundowner or dance away to the Southern River Band, Adrian Dzvuke, or another of the headline acts.
Bathers and boots
It would be almost criminal to visit Perth and not checkout a beach or three, and Perth has 19 city beaches to choose from. Pack everything you need for a day of sand and sea. Light, long sleeved clothes might be useful for the midday sun, and you will certainly need your thongs (known as flip-flops if you are coming from abroad), your swimwear, an excellent hat and sunscreen.
After a day or two in the Indian Ocean and all the indulgences of HSBC SVNS itself, it might be time to stretch the legs and strike out on one of Perth’s famous hikes. Whether it’s exploring Rottnest Island/Wadjemup and smiling back at the quokkas; checking out the 400-hectare inner city Kings Park; or coasting down the Swan River/Derbal Yerrigan – a decent pair of walking shoes is recommended. Plus that hat, of course.
Dress to impress
Perth is also a food and drink capital. Trendy rooftop bars like The Beaufort compete with late-night cocktail spots such as Golden Boy and Jade Girl and a plethora of award-winning restaurants. Plus you’ve got the sophisticated Swan Valley wine region to consider, not to mention the vibrant port city of Fremantle/Walyalup to explore.
So, in short, bring your Sunday best too and make the most of this incredible destination.
One final request, whatever you do, make sure you pack sunscreen – and plenty of it.
